“Major League Soccer is reviewing a manipulation allegation against Inter Miami. The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from making further comments until the review is complete,” the organization said in a statement.
According to ESPN, which cites sources close to the case, the Los Angeles Galaxy denounced Inter Miami for having started conversations with Casemiro before having the corresponding authorization.
The Los Angeles club had the so-called discovery rightsan MLS mechanism that gives a team priority in negotiating with an international soccer player and prevents other clubs in the league from competing simultaneously for his signature.
If another team wants to incorporate that player, it must first reach an agreement with the club that owns those rights before negotiating with the player.
The MLS confirmed that Inter Miami and the Los Angeles Galaxy subsequently reached an agreement for Casemiro’s discovery priority, although it specified that the terms will be made public when the investigation concludes.
Inter Miami announced this Wednesday the incorporation of the Brazilian midfielder until May 2027, with the option to extend the contract until the end of the 2029 season.
The club, however, did not detail what salary category Casemiro will occupy. Currently, Inter Miami has its three starting positions filled. Designated Playera figure that allows part of a footballer’s salary to be excluded from the strict MLS salary limit.
The incorporation of the Brazilian is still pending obtaining his work visa.
