This July 24 there will be a new Correspondents’ Dinner at the White House, which will have a greater deployment of security after, in last April’s edition, an assassination attempt occurred against the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
Following the incident, the dinner will not only have a greater deployment of security agents, but will also change venues and considerably reduce the number of guests.
The dinner will now be held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Washington, instead of the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the event was traditionally held.
The number of guests, which was previously approximately 2,600 people, was reduced to 700.
The United States Secret Service reported that the venue where the dinner will be held will have fewer access points.
In addition, all attendees received a QR code that they must scan to enter the event, unlike the April edition, when tickets were printed.
Donald Trump will attend the dinner, but will not be accompanied by other authorities who did participate in the previous edition.
On that occasion, the first lady, Melania Trump, was present; Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
On April 26, the gala was suspended after Cole Allen, a 31-year-old man, tried to break into the room where the event was taking place armed.
His action triggered a shootout with security agents that left no victims, but forced the evacuation of the president, who later appeared at an emergency press conference at the White House and asked that the dinner be held again as soon as possible.
