Xelajú MC not only debuted with a 0-1 defeat against San Pedro FC in the 2026 Apertura Tournament, but also starred in a moment that caught attention at the end of the match.
Jesús “Chucho” López approached goalkeeper Estuardo Sicán while he was offering statements to the media, took him by the arm and removed him from the scene before the interview concluded.
Sicán, who arrived at Xelajú MC for this tournament after his time at Antigua GFC, analyzed the defeat against San Pedro. “We didn’t expect to start the tournament this way. We came with the idea of winning and I wanted to keep a clean sheet,” the goalkeeper managed to say before López pushed him away.
The action was recorded and began to circulate on social networks shortly after the game. In the images, López can be seen approaching Sicán, taking him by the arm without saying anything and telling him to leave the place, which ended the goalkeeper’s statements.
The night was also complicated for Xelajú MC on the field. The Superchivos fell in their debut in the Apertura 2026 against San Pedro FC, who won by the minimum with a goal from Argentine striker Germán Águila.
Jorge Aparicio was sent off in the 80th minute for a double warning, leaving the team with ten players when looking for an equalizer. With one man less in the final minutes, the Quetzaltecan team failed to react and ended up consummating defeat on the first day of the national tournament.
Coach Roberto Hernández, who is playing his second consecutive tournament at the head of the team, will have to rethink his scheme for the second day. In addition, he will not be able to count on Aparicio, who must meet a suspension date due to the red card.
