The San Diego Comic-Con has brought several surprises for film fans, especially for followers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
One of them was the announcement of the new movie Ghost Riderwhose protagonist is a motorcycle acrobat who, after selling his soul to the devil, becomes united with a supernatural demon and becomes the Spirit of Vengeance. The character will be played by Ryan Gosling.
The announcement was made by the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, during the Marvel panel in Hall H, where he indicated that the film is scheduled to be released in 2028.
According to the medium Infobaethe character was created by screenwriter Gary Friedrich and illustrator Mike Ploog, and first appeared in 1972, in issue #5 of Marvel Spotlight.
The announcement also confirmed that the film will be directed by Shawn Levy, who also directed Deadpool & Wolverine. The script will be written by Jonathan Tropper, with whom Levy and Gosling previously collaborated on the film. Star Wars: Starfighterscheduled to premiere in May 2027.
The idea behind Gosling in the film
“Gosling is the best. I say that with enormous respect,” Levy expressed to the Comic-Con audience, recounting how, during the filming of Star Wars: Starfighterconversations about the Marvel project began and the actor soon joined the idea.
“Bro, let’s go for a ride,” he said, alluding to the Ghost Rider motto. “See you in 2028,” he added, as quoted Infobae.
The actor, who also played Ken in the film Barbiewill be the second to play Johnny Blaze, since Nicolas Cage starred in Ghost Rider (2007) and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011), produced by Sony, in which he gave life to the character of Blaze.
Both films grossed US$361 million worldwide and, according to Infobaeboth were not well received by critics.
With this film, Gosling will debut as a superhero on the big screen.
