Following the death of filmmaker Chuck Russell, Canadian actor Jim Carrey paid tribute to him with an emotional message and he remembered what it meant to work with him in the film The Mask, one of the most representative of his career.

I consider it a privilege to have worked with Chuck Russellwho during the filming of The Mask created an exuberant, childlike atmosphere of wonder and camaraderie on his set. “The entire cast and crew were moved and inspired by their joy,” he told Page Six.

Carrey added a thank you to the director and He highlighted the importance that The Mask has had in his professional career, which he described as “one of the jewels of my creative life.”

“Each of us has been blessed for many years by that vibrant and enduring moment,” he said.

Chuck Russell passed away at the age of 74 on July 22, in San Diego, California. His death was confirmed by his wife, Ania, to The New York Times.

During his career as a director, producer and screenwriter, his work was linked to horror, action and comedy productions.

He stood out with films such as A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 (1987), The Ravenous Spot (1988), The Mask (1994), Eraser (1996) and The Scorpion King (2002). His last project was Witchboard (2024).

The Mask was one of the most notable productions for both Chuck Russell and Jim Carrey. In it, Carrey plays Stanley Ipkiss, a bank employee who finds a mysterious mask capable of transforming his personality and giving him supernatural abilities.

The Canadian actor shares scenes with Cameron Diaz, who plays Tina Carlyle, a singer who develops a bond with Stanley as he tries to control the effects of the mask, as well as with Peter Greene, who plays Dorian Tyrell, Tina’s love interest.
