Chris Evans will play again Captain America in Avengers: Doomsdaya film that will be released on December 18, 2026. However, the American actor revealed that Marvel had proposed him to embody the hero again long before the new production.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly During San Diego Comic-Con, Evans explained that he had been open to returning as his character for several years.
Besides, had conversations with Marvel Studios after the premiere of Avengers: Endgamein 2019, in which producers Kevin Feige and Lou D’Esposito explored ideas to continue the story of Steve Rogersincluding a plot in which the character would have a new identity.
“When we finished Endgame In 2018, Lou and Kevin invited me to dinner and said, ‘We would love to continue making movies with Steve Rogers as Nomad.’ And I said, ‘Well, what do you have?'” he recalled.
He added that the proposal seemed good to him; However, I wanted to keep the original character. “For some reason, at the time it didn’t seem like the right thing to do… He was a little jealous. I wanted to keep it. But I just said, ‘Please keep proposing it.’”.
At the end of Avengers: EndgameSteve Rogers travels back in time to return the Infinity Stones and stay in that time to live with Peggy Carter.
Although those scenes were interpreted as a farewell to the character, Evans continued to receive proposals for a possible return, without any of them coming to fruition.
“Over eight years, I heard at least a dozen proposals. They were all wonderful. They just never really convinced me. And you start to think… maybe it’s not the right thing to do, because it’s just not right,” he shared.
That was until he received information about talks between Robert Downey Jr. and the studio to return to the franchise. “I thought: ‘Oops, oops. What does this mean?’… And suddenly everything made sense.”he commented.
For Avengers: DoomsdayDowney Jr. will no longer play Tony Stark, known as Iron Man, but Victor Von Doom, one of the main antagonists of the film. Meanwhile, Evans returns to the role he first played in Captain America: The First Avengerin 2011.
Both actors participated in the San Diego Comic-Con to promote their respective returns to the Marvel universe in the new film, which will premiere on December 18, 2026.
Avengers: Doomsday is the fifth Avengers film, produced by Marvel Studios. On this occasion, the superhero team must face a new enemy: Doctor Doom.
