Several people were injured this Tuesday in the magnitude 7.1 earthquake recorded in the Kumamoto prefecture, in southern Japan, according to local media, while authorities withdrew the tsunami warning issued after the earthquake.
Although there is still no official information on injuries or deaths, public television channel NHK reported that At least 50 people were taken to hospitals after the earthquake in Kumamoto. The prefectural police indicated that they are trying to locate nine people whose whereabouts are unknown.
Furthermore, a shopping center in the area suffered an explosion during the afternoon, although at the moment it is unknown if there were injuries, and authorities are trying to determine if there are people trapped.
In images published by NHK, the shopping center, located in the town of Kashima, Kumamoto prefecture, can be seen with part of the wall detached and roof collapsed.
According to information from the authorities cited by the chain, At least 12 homes collapsed and four people remain trapped in the prefecture, where the maximum level of the seven-level Japanese seismic scale, which measures the intensity of surface movement and the destructive potential of tremors, was recorded.

Thousands of people remain without electricity in the area, and authorities have asked the population to remain alert to the possibility of new tremors.
