The IOC sent the letter to the Executive Committee of the current Guatemalan Olympic Committee (COG) dated April 16, 2025, where he lets them know that they have been aware of the legal actions of the group headed by Jorge Rodas for trying to take power.
On March 21 of this year the Chamber Sixth of the Administrative Contentious Court notified the resolution of former soccer player to charge, To which the current authorities of the COG respond with an appeal before the CC, which is pending to be known.
“The situation is extremely unfortunate and we want to confirm, once again, that the position of the IOC has not undergone any change, in other words, The IOC continues to recognize the current board of its Con, elected by the General Assembly of March 24, 2022”, Says in the letter.
The letter is signed by James Macleod, director of relations with and Jérome Poley, associate director, institutional services and governance, who have followed step by step of the development of the conflict that began in October 2021 and that has been extended for almost four years.
“We reiterate that, in what corresponds to the IOC, the matter is simply closed and simply the directive must continue to operate according to the Olympic Charter, The statutes of the with approved by the IOC, and the autonomous decisions of the General Assembly of the Con, and if not, its with could be exposed to the protective measures established in the Olympic Charter (in particular the norm 27.9) ”, continues.
Standard 27.9 of the COI regulations refers to the protection of Olympic movement and allows the IOC Executive Commission to take measures to protect the Olympic movement against threats, including possible suspensions or withdrawal from the Con. Case that the legislation or government attitude of a country endangers the integrity of the Olympic movement.

In the event that Guatemala is suspended from the Olympic movement, the Central American Games would be at risk of carrying outIn addition, the athletes would stop representing the blue and white flag in the competitions in the Olympic cycle, as happened in 2023.
Jorge Rodas and his group have tried by all means to return to office, which they occupied without the support of the Assembly of December 2022 to March 2024. The situation returns to compromise the country in a year where again opens elections, under the new statutes of the COG.
Again, the decision is in the hands of the magistrates of the Constitutional Court, who this year ratified the suspension of Jorge Rodas of the sports leadership, after the sanction issued by the Ethics Committee.
