Several publications in social networks question the state of the crest of the temple III, in the Tikal National Park, due to the alleged deterioration that affects it, despite being one of the most emblematic buildings of said archaeological site of Petén.
However, the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Administration of the Tikal National Park ensure that the alleged damage indicated on social networks is due to controlled conservation processes, and not carelessness by the authorities, as indicated.
The shared images show a drilling carried out at the third level of the crest with the purpose of allowing access to the interior of the empty chamber and facilitating the structural stabilization work, indicates a statement from the Ministry of Culture.
In addition, he points out that the cracks identified in the vault were caused by the impact of lightning, which affected the crest of the temple III in 2012.
In compliance with the measures established for the protection and conservation of the site, access to the temple III has remained duly restricted to tourism in general, refers to letter.
The Administration of the Tikal National Park reiterates its commitment to the conservation and protection of the cultural heritage of the Nation.
