Marquense is one of the teams with the most history and tradition within Guatemalan football, but the institution is not going through its best moments.
On April 23, 2025, the San Marcos team signed its Mathematical descent from the National League to the First Division After not being able to beat Municipal in the clover and the draw between Xinabajul and Guastatoya in the Cuchumatanes.
This combination of results ended up being fatal for some western lions that can still enter the final phase, despite being mathematically descended.
Marquense returned to the highest category of Guatemalan football After classifying the final of the Clausura 2023 of the First Division.
This situation earned him the right to participate in Opening 2024 of the National League, however, between that tournament and in the current Clausura 2025, he fell back in the First Division.
This situation, which a team that ascends loses the category in two tournaments, is a well -known phenomenon in the National League, and Marquense became the last picture that joins the group of so -called “birds of passage”, clubs that only remain in the country’s high league for a year.
