The Government disclosed the tender to expand the electricity transmission network in which it is planned to put in the construction of 14 new electrical substations and more than 500 kilometers of new lines.

The presentation of the event was made next to the launch of the public tender of the Electricity Generation Expansion Plan (PEG 5) for 1,400 megawatts for 15 years that made the private electricity distributors.
However, the contest known as the third tender for the expansion plan of the transmission network (PET 3) It will be formalized on Friday through an agreement that will be published in the Official Gazette.
The Minister of Energy and Mines, Víctor Hugo Ventura, and the Deputy Minister, Fernando Castro, announced the details on April 23. For this Friday it is planned to present both competitions in the economic cabinet, according to Ventura.
Castro explained that four lots will be tendered with a total of 14 new electrical substations and more than 500 kilometers of new lines.
Investments for about US $ 200 million are estimated. The amount is approximate, since for example the lengths that are shown of 1 kilometer lines are projects under an existing line and if built below the line the investment is zero and in the terms of reference a radius of 5 kilometers is defined, Castro said.
The costs are average values of the electrical activity that can rise or lower, another uncertainty is in the payment of road rights, they usually start with low cost and end expensive, added the official.
- Lot 1: A connection point will be provided to the solar and wind generation projects of the southeast region. They include a substation in Jalpatagua and four lines, among them one that goes from the Pacific to Jalpatagua for 115 kilometers.
- Lot 2: This seeks to provide a transport network that can contribute to the connection in the northern and northeastern regions of the country. Aimed at areas of Petén and Izabal, with four substations and four lines, including a Livingston line to Modesto Méndez for 54 kilometers.
- Lot 3: A transport network will be provided that can contribute to the connection of new users of Alta Verapaz, adds the MEM. There are six substations and nine lines that total 267 kilometers.
- Lot 4: It seeks to provide a transport network that can contribute to the connection of new users of the southwest of the country. Includes 3 substations and three lines for 69 kilometers.
For the entire process, a period of 6 months is expected, according to the State Hiring Law.
