Residents of several sectors of Quetzaltenango protest against the costs of electricity and piped water, services that, they say, are deficient.

Villagers from several sectors of the city of Quetzaltenango expressed in front of the commune against the costs of electricity and piped water, services they say are deficient.
Villagers congregated this Thursday, February 27 in front of the Municipality of Xela, and launched slogans against the edile authorities, who are responsible for the high costs and the poor quality of the electric power services and piped water.
“I come by my own will, as a mother and as a neighbor. We are upset by so much corruption and the rise in electricity, because we have a bad energy and drinking water service. We pay a lot and we don’t have the full service, ”said Elisabeth Hernández, who protested Thursday in front of the Altense commune.
On the other hand, Santiago Sandoval, a dissatisfied neighbor, said that in the sector where the water has lived for a year, it has been at most frequently and only at dawn.
“We demand that the services be of better quality, because in the Loma de los Arangos we have more than a year of not having water, it arrives a little at five in the morning and we have to be buying water pipes. I am an older person, but if one does not get up, nothing is done. If the mayor does not put the services he renounces, ”he added.
Restitution of councilors demand
Among the protesters there were also people who demanded the restitution of the opposition councilors of the Civic Committee by shiring Xela, who were separated from their positions by a court order
“We demand that our vote be respected,” said another of the dissatisfied that only identified as Rebeca.
A position was requested from the Municipality of Quetzaltenango, but reported that they do not know the demands of the people who protest.
