The Lilas is a project by the Guatemalan musician Sebastián Villatoro that, according to his vision, arose due a panorama where many proposals bet on irony or aesthetic saturation.
According to the national artist, his musical proposal has influences of the classic bolero, surfing and instrumental western.
Friday, April 25, The Lilas published Tropical cowboyan EP that includes five songs linked between love, melancholy and the beauty of everyday life.
“In this album there is a futuristic production with a vision in personal, creative and artistic growth. In addition, it is a collection of songs that sustain genuine emotion, precise arrangements and a sensitivity that is not afraid to show yourself to the nude,” said the Guatemalan artist.
According to The Lilas, the mixture of those feelings next to the psych surf with Garage Rock results in an atmosphere it calls Beach Noir.
“This project shows the surfing Rock because I always liked it, also the western, because I fit a lot with those universes. As for aesthetics, the Feeling And let’s not tell the guitars, which is that it is something that I love in the movies, I think it was time to discover and expose what I felt, what really is mine, so I am very associated with this format, ”he added.
According to the Guatemalan musician, in Tropical cowboyeach song is a small scenario where tenderness and uncertainty live together, as postcards of a romantic film written from the Central American tropics.
Tropical cowboythe emergence
The recent EP of The Lilas was produced with the Guatemalan Beaumont and according to the national artist, marks a step towards even clearer, warmer and more proper, after his first EP Couleur Motel (2020).
“During the recording and all the work that has been launching an album, I focused on presenting a more personal proposal and included songs that can sound to the road, farewell, hug,” said The Lilas.
Before launching the EP, the local artist presented the singles Marine and Coral snakein February and March, respectively.
Marine
According to The Lilas, with Marine is immersed on a hypnotic trip mixing psych surf with Garage Rock of the 1960s and creates an atmosphere that continues to call Beach Noir.
The national artist said that the sound of this song is a sway between the ethereal and the gloomy, with a Riff that carries on a wave and letters that remember a love that is lost with the tide. In addition, he said that it is a seductive piece that shines under the sun and the moon.
Coral snake
The Lilas insisted that with this piece he immersed himself in a hypnotic trance with a Loop Magnetic that catches from the first note, such as the song of a snake charming.
The musician also said that a Tarantinesca guitar guides the trip while the rhythm transports us to arid landscapes, endless roads and scenarios bathed by the scorching sun.
His participation in the epicenter Showcase
Convinced that his recent EP deserves exhibition, The Lilas indicated that he will premiere it live and officially on Sunday, April 27, during the first edition of the Epicenter Showcase, an event that has the mission of giving voice to the new musical generations in Guatemala and the Central America region And in which Easy Easy will also participate, Cynthia FionKello’s house, Tita, Leena Bae, Franc Castillejos and fabulous.
“This production is small in duration, but great in intention and with honest and exciting composition in Central American music. I also worked to present it live and in the format of the epicenter Showcase,” said the local artist.
Having the clarity that The Lilas is an individual project, The Guatemalan musician commented that, for the festival he will have special guests who will support him to present his new Sonora proposal.
“I hope they can attend the first edition of the Epicenter Showcase because it will be a pleasure to share my new live songs, but it is also an opportunity to appreciate the musical quality of the other participants, with whom I have been fortunate to share and exchange ideas,” he concluded.
