This April 29 several deputies confirmed to have received the deposit of their salary with the increase approved last November. With this, legislators have received for the third consecutive month economic benefit despite social criticisms and demands.

The deputies of the tenth legislature cost Guatemala, in just three months of almost Q30 million salaries. That is according to the data that reflect the salary payrolls of the legislative body.

Of the 160 deputies, 151 receive a monthly salary of Q61 thousand 300, taking a base salary of Q46 thousand 700, which is included a series of economic bonds, which increases the monthly payment for each deputy.

Each of the five secretaries of the Directive receives salaries from Q76 thousand 300, which together total Q381 thousand 500 in a month. The three vice presidents receive salaries for Q81 thousand 300, which represents Q243 thousand 900 per month.

But who earns more – around Q100 thousand per month – is deputy Nery Ramos, the president of Congress. Its monthly salary is Q97 thousand 300.

The parliamentarians received their salary after four weeks of session inactivity, because they did not attend the sessions that were summoned and add the week of holidays per Holy Week.

Offering

On March 25, the president of Congress, Nery Ramos, announced at a press conference that he suspended the minutes that gave rise to the salary increase for the deputies, after two weeks of denying that some economic benefit would have been approved.

Ramos only admitted that the increase in the Board of Directors had been approved, after Free press published the act of the session where the instruction was givena session in which Ramos was not.

However, until today the plenary resumed the plenary sessions and no proposal was included in the agenda to change the salary.
