Family and friends of the young Melisa Palacios, killed in Zacapa in July 2021, arrived this Sunday, May 4 to the capital to participate in a march in which they ask that the process against María Fernanda Bonilla, the main suspect of the crime, be transferred to a court of greater risk.
Daniela Palacios, Melisa’s sister, reported that they seek that the case be known in a court in the capital, because, in their criteria, in Zacapa and Chiquimula, he has not been given the importance he deserves.
He added that, during the last four years, his family has faced complicated scenarios, because the process for the death of his sister has found several obstacles. One of them is that he has not been transferred to a court of greater risk.
We want the case to pass for the capital, because in Zacapa and Chiquimula it was not evaluated as it should be. My sister was my life partner, she was the pillar of the house, it was like my second mother and I will not rest until justice is done, she added.
The march left the Obelisco Square and will conclude with a plant in front of the CSJ.
Anabella Chacón, mother of Melisa Palacios, called on the population to join their demands and accompany them in the march.
Melisa Palacios disappeared on July 4, 2021 in San Jorge, Zacapa, and a day later his body appeared with multiple blows to the head.
Almost four years have passed since the crime occurred and there is still no sentence for the case.
The aforementioned crime is María Fernanda Bonilla, who on Wednesday, March 12, after a hearing was suspended, journalists told: My crime is not murder, my crime is homicide in a state of violent emotion.
That day the audience was scheduled in which it would be known if Bonilla would face trial for the death of Palacios.
On March 13, the Public Ministry confirmed the existence of an audio recorded minutes before the crime.
The audio was extracted from a video that leaked in social networks and the research entity confirmed that it corresponds to the case.
In the recording you hear: the password and I do not do anything.
Please, Palacios expressed to ask them to stop assaulting her.
The aggressor, according to the audio, replies: you talked about me. Then noise that would be blows are heard.
I said nothing, the victim replied between panic.
The burial of Melisa Palacios was held in 2021 in tears, sadness and manifestations to demand justice for what happened.
Dozens of people went to the funeral in San Jorge to give a last goodbye to the young woman and demand the clarification of the crime.
