The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) asked the Court of Domain Extinction measures on eight real estate linked to Miguel Martínez, former director of the missing government center during the administration of Alejandro Giammattei, judicial sources reported.
Judge Jaime Delmar informed the Prosecutor’s Office that, being an extensive case, he will give his resolution at a hearing scheduled for Monday, May 12.
Data provided by a source close to the case, which preferred anonymity, indicates that some goods are in the name of Martínez’s friends and family, so the economic profile of the owners is doubted.
According to the records, the goods were acquired between 2020 and 2024, the same period that the mandate of Alejandro Giammattei lasted in the presidency of Guatemala.
According to the source, these cases have been under investigation for approximately two years. However, to continue with the investigations, the measure is necessary, in order to enter the properties, make an appraisal and establish the real value of these or the existing constructions in the places.
What is sought, according to the source, is to determine the origin of the funds used in the purchase of the properties.

Sanctioned by the US.
On December 1, 2023, Martínez was sanctioned with the Magnitsky Global Law on Human Rights, as announced by the United States Department of the Treasury.
According to the press release, Martínez was sanctioned for “his role in corruption in Guatemala, where he participated in generalized bribery schemes, including schemes related to government contracts.”
Among the accusations against Miguel Martínez is to have received “great bribes for facilitating the purchase of Russian Sputnik V vaccines.” In addition, USA says that “he was conspired with other officials of the Guatemalan government to illegally award contracts.”
Martinez was in charge of the Government Center, an entity created on January 28, 2020, that is, in the first weeks of the Government of Alejandro Giammattei, and that had representation in each of the State Ministries.
