Gerson Ajcúc, head of Chuuracho, died inside a 2022 black agricultural agricultural truck, which he had bought less than three months ago, demonstrate the first investigations of the authorities, which point to three hypotheses about the incident.
Leslie Estrada, a survivor of the armed attack at kilometer 11.5 of the Atlantic route, reported how two hitmen aboard a black motorcycle chased them and later one of them shot them.
Estrada told the PNC agents that she was a companion of Ajcúc work and that both were at a meeting with the Departmental Development Council (CODEDE) in San José del Gulfo and headed to the capital when they were intercepted.
The researchers said that the hitmen fled to zone 18 and the last trace they had of them was near the Metro Norte Shopping Center.
“We observe the traffic cameras and road shops to the Atlantic, to see the path of the suspects, which we presume are gang members,” they said.
They commented that the hitmen are possibly members of the Mara Salvatrucha and work to identify the intellectual authors of the event.
“We assume that the hitmen were paid, they told him where the mayor was going to be and they followed him,” they emphasized.
The three hypotheses
The researchers argued that there are three lines of research for the murder of the mayor.
The first is a crime for political issues and where some acquaintances of Ajcú would be involved.
The second hypothesis details that it could be a revenge of a colleague of the mayor, a dispute that was generated after Ajcúc reached the position.
The third line of research is related to drug trafficking, although researchers did not detail more on the subject.
Francisco Jiménez, Minister of the Interior, lamented the direct attack against Ajcúc Xot and acknowledged that a team of the Specialized Division in Criminal Investigation (DEIC) will coordinate with the Public Ministry to follow up on the case.
“They have orders that do not skimp in resources and capacities for them to give with the person responsible. This repudiable case should not be unpunished. I join the family, friends, neighbors and supporters, ”said the official.
They regret crime
Through social networks, President Bernardo Arévalo lamented the death of the head chief Gerson Ajcúc.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Mayor Gerson Ajcúc Xot. I have ordered the Ministry of the Interior to work on the clarification of this unfortunate fact. Rest in peace,” he published.
The Public Ministry said it investigates the armed attack in which the mayor died and that he seeks to identify those responsible.
“The MP deeply regrets the loss of one more life, because of the violence that currently affects our country, and reiterates its commitment to the Guatemalan people of investigating until reaching the historical truth of the facts, individualizing those responsible for this crime and bringing justice to the victim’s family,” said the MP in a statement broadcast on social networks.
