At the rhythm of his successes as “illusions”, “the tumbador” and “love does not arrive twice”, Ricardo Funes and his relatives fired his father and founder of the Fidel Funes group and his marimba orchestra in the field where he was buried.
After suffering a cardiac arrest derived from complications for his chronic kidney disease, the death of the international artist was announced on March 1, remembered by issues such as “Ay, Rosita”.
The family statement details that Fidel Funes died at 9:21 in last Saturday, in a private hospital in zone 1, where he remained hospitalized.
María Funes, the artist’s daughter, explained that her father presented complications earlier last week, so she was admitted to the hospital. After receiving on Thursday, he suffered a new crisis that forced his re -entry on Friday night, finally dying on Saturday, surrounded by his family.
Fidel Funes’s legacy will remain alive in each chord of the group, which will now continue under the direction of his son Ricardo Funes. With the motto “continues”, the Marimba Orchestra dismissed with honors its director and founder, who led them to international fame.

During the funeral, made in zone 13 of the capital, relatives fired Master Fidel Funes with Mariachis, applause and the compass of his song “Illusions”, paying tribute to the renowned composer.
During the wake, his daughter María Funes thanked family, friends and followers of the musician for accompanying the family at this difficult time and for remembering her father with love.
“Thank you for remembering my father, as they will continue to say eternally great,” he added.
He also took the opportunity to thank the support that the group has received since Fidel Funes became ill, which led Ricardo “Coco” Funes to assume the group’s address.

Mass in honor of Fidel Funes
Accompanied by dozens of fans, media and nearby people, Fidel Funes’ body was transferred to the chapel of a private funeral home, where a Mass was held in his honor.
During the ceremony, his children thanked the support provided to his father during his 44 years of experience with his marimba orchestra, as well as the public’s interest in his state of health.
During the act, Coco Funes, moved by the love for his father and with a lot of nostalgia, asked for a strong applause for the composer.
Again, María Funes commented: “We are nervous, with the hurt heart. So many things that could be expressed … For my part, I couldn’t stop taking advantage of this moment to thank everyone for being here. ”
He remembered his father as a person who gave Guatemala great achievements and contributed positively to the country, a legacy that will continue.
“My dad taught us to fall in love with art, and that is something that fills the soul and heart,” he said.
Following this, Yomara and Barbara Funes, daughters of the composer, thanked God for the Father who touched them and assured that they will remember him with love.

Guatemalan composer and musician Fidel Maximilian Funes Nolasco left an indelible mark on the history of the Marimba Orchestra, consolidating himself as a reference of this genre worldwide. His talent and charisma allowed him to win the love of hundreds of followers, who today regret their departure.
Born on March 12, 1956 in the Tumbador, San Marcos, grew in a family environment marked by music. His father and grandfather, both marimbistas, were his inspiration to devote himself to this instrument.
Funes reached international fame after founding the Fidel Funes group and its orchestra marimba, with which it took Guatemalan music to various scenarios inside and outside the country. With 44 years of experience, he made thousands of people dance and managed to make the orchestra marimba transcend generations.
His talent was not only reflected in music, but also in cinema and television. He participated in four cinematographic productions and in the Mexican soap opera Neighborhood lovewhere his art reached the small screen.
With his departure, Fidel Funes leave an indelible legacy in Guatemalan music, remembered for his joy, rhythm and passion for the orchestra marimba.
