The approach between Chonay and the pedals was a love at first sight, where the pride of the Caserío La Vega, of the municipality of Santa Apolonia, Chimaltenango, made the decision to get fully involved in cycling.
His first participation was specified in a fair race, where he did not go wrong and, together with the support of his friend, the former Óscar Serech, it was like Wilson began to make his way in his sport.
Today, four years later and fulfilling the goal of running the so longed for Back to Guatemala, who in fact has three, Chonay will leave for Spain To live your first experience abroad with the team Lasal Kitchens-Craega.
“I am very excited, it was a dream that I had since I started riding a bicycle. I am grateful to God, with the people who have made this a reality, especially my friend Óscar Serech, who has supported me to focus on achieving each of my goals, ”he said.
Chonay joined this year to Hino One The Network, to which it is very grateful for the efforts so that it could go to prepare and improve its level, although – just hours of undertaking the flight to Spain – he still says he can be able to believe it.
“I thank my team, Team Hino, and Mr. Manuel Siekavizza For all the support to give this opportunity. They are also part of this and I go with the mentality of giving my best with my new team. I still still believe it; I feel that I am dreaming, but I know it is a dream, in which I will be able to learn a lot, And I will take this opportunity to improve, ”he said.
A big step
Wilson Chonay will be the third Hino team corridor that this experience will live, after Mordecao Vásquez and Sergio Chumil. The latter is already part of the Burgos-Bh professional team, also from Spain.
In fact, Chonay shared that Chumil, at the time, put it aware of the level of demand that is handled, and that has it more motivated and with the desire to transcend.
“Sergio has told me that the level is very strong, that the races are hard, but he says that being disciplined you can have a good performance and I go with those desire to do things well. I want to represent all Guatemala in the best way, ”he said.
The pedalist and also national selected never thought that in such a short time he could see reflected the fruit of his effort and dedication, because he has sacrificed many things to fulfill his dreams.
“I am surprised by what I have achieved in the short time I have to be in cycling, but I know that behind all this there are many people to whom I will always be grateful. I am aware that this is part of the effort, the discipline and dedication that I have placed since I decided to be in this sport, ”he said.
Chonay will participate with the Spanish team for the next three months, and will seek to absorb everything I can to increase its level and thus be one of the great candidates to fight the 64th edition of La Vuela to Guatemala.
