The new legal appeal against the salary increase was known this March 15 and adds to the four new amparos that ask the Court to stop the measure.

The deputy José Chic, of the will, opportunity and solidarity block (you), presented a new action that seeks to reverse the salary increase for congressmen.
The Constitutional Court (CC) granted Chic, last December, a provisional protection that stopped the authorization of compensation for the deputies and issued the guidelines that should be followed for the approval of a salary increase. Now, Chic asks the Court to expand the effects of that amparo, because the instructions regarding the salary increase did not follow the letter.
In the resolution of the Constitutional Court, it was explained on that occasion that, to approve a salary increase, the Board of Directors of the Congress had to make a financial evaluation and determine the necessary internal readcations, which should be ratified by the highest authority of the Congress, that is, the plenary of deputies.
However, the salary increase was only in charge of the Board of Directors, which omitted to take the discussion to the plenary, so Chic seeks to assert the amparo that he achieved in December.
The deputies now have a base salary of Q46,700, but receive a greater remuneration for the economic benefits they already had, as diets and representation expenses.
The CC has in your hands, so far, five legal actions against the salary increase. Four amparos are also pending resolution: two presented by the former presidential ex -candidate Armando Castillo and two by the Citizen Action Organization.
