Pope Francis, hospitalized since February 14 due to respiratory problems, can happen “short moments” without additional oxygen supply, said the Vatican press office, specifying that his health status remained this Monday without changes.

“The some moments, probably brief, the Pope can do without the help of oxygen, such as when he moves,” said this source, one day after the dissemination of the first image of the 88 -year -old Argentine Jesuit since his hospitalization.

The photo shows it sitting in a wheelchair and a little furry at the altar of its private chapel at the Gemelli hospital in Rome. The pontiff appears alone and without carrying the nasal high flow cannula, which he usually uses during the day to help him breathe.

The spiritual leader of 1,400 million Catholics in the world was admitted 32 days ago by bronchitis, which resulted in bilateral pneumonia. Since then, he has not made any public appearance.

The last medical part, broadcast on Saturday night by the Holy See, indicated that his health status remained “stable”, but that he still needed to continue his treatment in the hospital despite his “gradual improvement.”
