President Bernardo Arévalo held a tour of the Roosevelt Hospital and the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance on Friday, March 21, with the aim of supervising the progress of the projects promoted by its administration. These include the strengthening of cancer patients, according to the health portfolio through an official statement.
According to the authorities, the government objectives are articulated around three axes: the strengthening of hospital infrastructure, assurance of medicines for the entire population and the construction of a hospital specialized in oncological care.
“Our work is to try to generate the conditions for you to continue carrying out this work and that we improve the capabilities of the state to attend, in general, to the health sector and all the needs, but with a very special focus that we have had since the beginning in the issue of attention to cancer,” said Arévalo during his visit to the chemotherapy room of the aforementioned health center.
The president held a meeting with Minister Joaquín Barnoya, his vice ministers and technical and administrative teams, in which he emphasized the need to rebuild public services, especially the health system, which, as he said, has been historically abandoned.
The statement adds that among the issues addressed highlighted the construction of hospitals in Joyabaj (Quiché), Sololá and Chiquimula, as well as the future hospital specialized in oncological care, which, according to Barnoya, “has an approach to radiotherapy, as the law explains it.” The official added that there are measures that could begin to be implemented while the construction of the aforementioned center progresses.
During the meeting, projections were also shared for the building of new care centers.
