The US authorities reported this Friday that arrested 68 alleged members of the Venezuelan Train of Aragua gang in less than a week, according to the Department of Internal Security (DHS, in English).

In a statement, the DHS said that, in less than 100 days, the government of President Donald Trump has arrested 394 members of the Aragua Train, a gang qualified as “ruthless” and known for crimes as trafficking in persons, kidnapping, drug trafficking and other acts that – according to the agency – terrify communities in the United States.

Trump, who returned to the White House on January 20, told this group “Global Terrorist Organization”, which has allowed a comprehensive approach for dismantling, the DHS detailed.

The Republican president also invoked the Law of Foreign Enemies of 1798, a regulation used historically only in times of war, to stop and expel alleged members of the Aragua train.

A federal judge suspended its application for these purposes until the end of this month. However, more than 200 alleged members of the criminal group were transferred to El Salvador, which has generated tensions between the Executive and Judicial Power.

The judge requested explanations to the Government, which claims to have complied with the order since it was put in writing, although it has not facilitated the information required by the magistrate.

According to the Salvadoran president, Nayib Bukele, 238 alleged members of the Aragua train arrived in that country and were transferred to the Center for Confinement of Terrorism (CECOT).

“Aragua’s train is a terrorist organization whose members are rapists, drug traffickers and murderers. We will continue to ensure that these garbage are expelled in the streets of the United States and appear before justice,” said an unidentified DHS spokesman, cited in the statement.
