Videos reveal how Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa live in a house infested with rats

In the last hours, videos of the house have circulated on social networks where actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead, on the outskirts of Santa Fe, New Mexico, last February. The images show the abandonment in which the domicile was, which, according to the authorities, was infested with rodents.

The recordings that circulate on social networks, and in which the condition of the house is appreciated, were captured by the body cameras of the police officers who arrived at the scene. They show disorder and a dog that sleeps on some garments.

It is reported that these images were registered on the day they located the couple’s bodies.

Rodents

The New Mexico Department of Health found multiple dead rodents in several housing units where Hackman and his wife died. The latter died from Hantavirus, a disease that contracts due to exposure to excrement of these animals.

According to US media, which cite an environmental report of that department made in March, bodies and rodent nests were found in three garages, as well as in two houses – small homes separated from the property – and in three sheds.

In addition, a living rodent was found in one of the garages, CNN reported.

The authorities also struck dead rodents, a nest and droppings in two vehicles located on the property, cataloged in the report as “agricultural machinery” or “abandoned” transport.

Arakawa and Hackman, who married in 1991, were found dead in their isolated housing on the outskirts of Santa Fe last February.

The state forensic doctor concluded that Arakawa, 65, died from Hantavirus, virus that can cause symptoms similar to those of the flu, before evolving as respiratory disease, with pulmonary and cardiac insufficiency.

Hackman, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, remained one more week in the house living with his wife’s body, before he died on February 18 due to heart disease.

The actor, Hollywood legend for several decades of the twentieth century, won two Oscar awards for his iconic characters in The French Connection and Unforgivenand became one of the most versatile and popular interpreters of his generation.
