A sentimental disappointment influenced Jorge Mario Bergoglio’s decision to become a priest from a young age, and later, in the Pontiff. Francisco died on Monday, April 21 in his apartment of the Vatican Residence Casa Santa Marta, after a prolonged health crisis.
Francisco was the first Jesuit Pope in history. It was characterized by its constant commitment in the defense of migrants, the environment and social justice, without departing from the conservative positions of the Church on issues such as abortion or priestly celibacy.
After his death this morning, he has resurfaced information about his intimate life, in particular about how a love disappointment in his adolescence aroused his priestly vocation, which culminated with his choice as a pontiff, in 2013.
International media have highlighted the name of Amalia Damonte, the woman with whom Jorge Mario Bergoglio could not marry, so he chose to surrender to religious life.
Amalia Damonte would have been the only love of Pope Francis, who, at age 12, still did not think about being a priest, because she was in love with her. Amalia was her neighbor and, according to the woman to international media, after the death of the pontiff, she was close to becoming her wife.
“It was great, Maduro, a wonder of a boy. We played on the sidewalks or in the parks of the area, we danced … something very nice. We were very humble, we loved the poor … In that we were twin souls,” Damonte told the media, according to publish Time.
The woman points out that Francisco promised her in a letter that, if her relationship did not prosper, he would make a cure, which was fulfilled, since Amalia’s parents did not allow that relationship to continue.
Thus, this woman who could have been Bergoglio’s first childhood girlfriend was not, because she had to reject him. “My mom discovered the letter and beat me up. I asked him not to see me anymore … things of guys,” he added.
“I had drawn a little house that had a red roof, white down, and above said: ‘This little house is the one I am going to buy when we get married,” said Amalia that said Francisco’s letter.
After discovering the teenage romance, Amalia’s parents forbidden to receive more Bergoglio letters and everything ended.
Months after separating, Bergoglio entered the seminar, he became a priest and, in 2013, he was elected Pope. He details that they managed to continue in touch for several years through letters, but his love became impossible.
Both families moved, she married and formed a family. Later, when Jorge Mario Bergoglio was appointed priest, Amalia spoke publicly about her old friend.
“I think he is very sensible, and I am also.
