Two members of the criminal structure “the R” were sentenced with minimal penalties and fines, after accepting their responsibility in crimes as an illegal association, money laundering and bribery.

Two members of the criminal structure known as “the R” accepted charges before Judge Eduardo Orozco, who is temporarily in charge of the most risky court “B”, and received minimal convictions.
This is Edy Estuardo Villeda and Sebastián Lester Gómez Mijangos, alleged members of the structure dedicated to migrants traffic from different nationalities, from the border with Honduras to the border with Mexico.
The investigation indicates that they transported migrants in private vehicles, and that during the journey they made bribes to agents of the National Civil Police (PNC) that also integrated the structure.
Both underwent the special procedure for acceptance of charges and benefited from reducing the penalty.
Edy Estuardo Villeda was sentenced by an illicit association to six years in prison; However, for accepting the facts, the penalty was reduced in half and was in three years in prison switching at the rate of Q5 daily.
He was also sentenced for money laundering or other assets to six years in prison; When the benefit of acceptance of charges, the penalty was reduced to three years in prison at the rate of Q5 daily, in addition to the payment of a fine of Q200 thousand.
Sebastián Lester Gómez Mijangos was sentenced by an illegal association to six years in prison, but with the reduction for acceptance of charges, the penalty was in three years in prison switching at the rate of Q5 daily.
By active bribery he was sentenced to five years in prison switching, and when accepting the charges the conviction was in two years and six months in prison, also switched at the rate of Q5 daily.
He was also convicted of justice obstruction to six years in prison; After accepting the charges, the penalty was reduced to three years in prison switching at the rate of Q5 daily and the payment of a fine of Q25 thousand. The judge also resolved that Edy Estuardo Villeda must pay Q100 thousand as a dignified repair to a church located in zone 18. While Sebastián Lester Gómez Mijangos must pay the sum equivalent to five non -agricultural minimum wages to an institution for helping children with cancer.
