The Guatemalan representation concluded its participation in singles of the J100 Galileo University Cup with outstanding performances by Alison Oliva and Ronaldo Cotomwho were close to reaching the semifinals after competing as equals against high-level rivals.

Oliva starred one of the best games of the day when facing the American Filipa Delgado, second seed of the tournament. The national team surprised by winning the first set by 6-2 and put against the ropes one of the favorites for the title.

The American reacted to win the second set 6-3. In the third set, Oliva came back from a two-game deficit to force a tie-breakbut finally Delgado prevailed 8-6 after almost three hours of play.

On the male branch, Ronaldo Cotom also sold his defeat dearly against the American Indra Vergne. After losing the first set 6-3, the Guatemalan responded with authority and took the second 6-1 to equalize the match.

The ticket to the semifinals was defined in an intense third round. Vergne managed to win 6-3, ending an outstanding week for the main national representative in the men’s box.

Despite the eliminations, Guatemala maintains presence in the tournament thanks to Antonio Castellanos, who together with the American Indra Vergne competes one of the doubles semi-finals. Their match was suspended due to rain when the match tie-break was tied 7-7.
