First rains in June cause landslides and undercut on several routes in the country

The heavy rains that have been recorded at the beginning of June have begun to leave sequelae in different parts of the country, causing blockages and interruptions in vehicular mobility on several routes.

The rains that occurred throughout the national territory on June 3 caused floods, rock and mud landslides, that prevented vehicle mobility for several hours, according to information from the Ministry of Communications.

In the municipality of Sacapulas, Quiché, an overflow caused by the increase in the water level of the ravine known as Chacaya, which left a trace of stones, mud and sediments occurred in a 500 -meter stretch on the road. The rescue of three people was reported with minor injuries who moved to a hospital care center. A family of six people who sought refuge with neighbors were also evacuated.

In the section that connects the town of Casillas, department of Santa Rosa, with Mataquescuintla, Jalapa, a landslide was reported that hindered the passage at kilometer 84.

While at kilometer 190 of the CA-1 route, located between four roads and POLOGUÁ, in Totonicapán, a collapse was reported that blocked half of the road.

These places were deployed machinery and personnel from the General Directorate of Roads, which did work to clear the roads.
