Three Guatemalans nominated in the “Grammy” of Catholic music

The call was made for composers, singers, musicians, producers, engineers and mixers who carry a positive message or inspire the spiritual path. This is the first edition of these awards organized by the Dicasteria for Communications, the Dicas supplies for the laity, families and life, the Dicasteria for the evangelizations, the Pontifical International Marian Academy and the Ramón Pané Foundation.

Best female singer, Telma Beatriz Ruiz Álvarez, “My Jesús de la Merced”

The song is dedicated to the image found in the Merced Temple in the Historic Center. She is a dentist doctor by profession and on weekends sings in Masses.

“I never imagined reaching the final and I hope that in the next editions more people are registered and Guatemala’s talents are increasingly present in these activities,” he says. The song was written for the considered jury pattern in 2022during the anniversary of the consecration of the image.

Ruiz comments that he is playing doors and sponsors to go to the event. The Ministry of Culture told him that he needed to make the request with more time to receive support.

Best song Mariana, Juan Carlos Cevasco Reyes, “Mother of Love”

As a child, Juanca Cevasco – his artistic name – has been a follower of Maria, his grandmother taught him to pray the Rosary every day at 6 pm.

The nominated song, Mother of love It was an inspiration of 2021, during the pandemic. He wrote with his son Nicolás, then 11 years old who had the concern to follow his dad’s path as a musician.

“I studied at the Guatemala Lyceum, and it is a Marist school. One day I went to the chapel and asked God to give me the gift of the voice. I was seven years old, and from there I dedicated my talent,” Cevasco recalls in a special way. “We have only one goal with songs and events and it is to bring the love of God through music,” he says.

Cevasco is dedicated to business administration, and music is its passion. He currently also seeks resources and support to attend the award.

Best Urban Song, Gabbriel Chitay, “And what will you do?”

Gabbriel’s song – his artistic name – premiered during the 6th National Youth Day, in Santa Rosa, in 2017.

His service has been, especially, with the National Youth Pastoral of Guatemala. He attends activities of youth groups and parishes that request their support.

Since 2014, he is a full -time Missionary Lay musician, although his way in this work began in the 1990s, when he was a teenager.
