Netflix He confirmed that he will eliminate the basic plan without ads in Mexico from October 12, 2025. Subscribers will be automatically transferred to the standard plan with advertisements, by 119 Mexican monthly pesos (approximately Q55).
The measure is part of a global strategy that the company implements since 2024 in several markets. Look for users to choose between paying more for standard or premium plans, or accepting the advertisement version.
The new standard plan with ads offers Full HD quality, access on two devices simultaneously and download option in both. According to Netflix, it represents a 30% savings compared to the previous basic plan, although it includes advertising.
This decision responds to a global strategy applied since 2024, when the company began to restrict access to the basic plan for new subscribers in markets such as Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Japan, Australia and Brazil.
Advertising strategy promotes changes in Netflix
The advertisement model represents about 40% of the new subscriptions in the markets where it is available, which motivates Netflix to continue the elimination of options without advertising.
The platform notified its users in Mexico: “We will stop offering the basic plan, and your new standard plan with advertisements, for 119 pesos, will automatically begin on your billing date.”

Current situation in Guatemala
In Guatemala, The streaming platform adjusted its rates in 2025. The current prices are: Basic Plan, US $ 5.99 per month; standard plan, US $ 8.99 per month; and Premium Plan, US $ 12.49 per month.
