Netflix He confirmed that he will eliminate the basic plan without ads in Mexico from October 12, 2025. Subscribers will be automatically transferred to the standard plan with advertisements, by 119 Mexican monthly pesos (approximately Q55).

The measure is part of a global strategy that the company implements since 2024 in several markets. Look for users to choose between paying more for standard or premium plans, or accepting the advertisement version.

Advertising strategy promotes changes in Netflix

The advertisement model represents about 40% of the new subscriptions in the markets where it is available, which motivates Netflix to continue the elimination of options without advertising.

The platform notified its users in Mexico: “We will stop offering the basic plan, and your new standard plan with advertisements, for 119 pesos, will automatically begin on your billing date.”

Those who wish to maintain a plan without ads must migrate manually to a more expensive option before their collection date.

Netflix continues to make global adjustments in its subscription models, although it has not officially announced when it will eliminate the basic plan in Guatemala.

The background in other Latin American countries suggest that the measure could be applied in the coming months. The platform seeks to guide users towards two main options: pay more for a standard or premium plan, or accept the advertisement version.

What can Guatemalans expect?

The gradual model that Netflix has followed indicates that, in Guatemala, the notification would arrive several months in advance. This would allow subscribers to evaluate the alternatives and decide whether they migrate to a more expensive plan or accept the option with advertisements.

Netflix will not allow to keep the basic plan. If users do not take action, they will be transferred to the standard plan. Therefore, it will be necessary to manually modify the account configuration before the billing date.

Currently, Guatemalan users who pay US $ 5.99 for the basic plan would face two options: accept the model with ads or pay US $ 8.99 for the standard option without advertising.
