A heavy downpour accompanied by intense gusts of wind caused an advertising billboard to fall on the Aguilar Batres road, zone 11 and zone 12 of the capital; In addition, authorities report at least 20 other incidents related to the storm.
On the afternoon of this Thursday, October 9, a sudden downpour accompanied by wind surprised residents of the Aguilar Batres road, between the 2nd street of zones 11 and 12.
According to Amílcar Montejo, head of Communication at Emetra, the fence fell on several homes. Despite the size of the structure, no injuries have been reported preliminarily.
Montejo also indicated that the collapse caused damage to the area’s electrical power service.
Authorities remain on site to assess the damage and remove the structure.
The rains and strong winds recorded this Thursday afternoon caused at least 20 emergencies in different parts of Guatemala City, according to the official report from the municipal authorities. The incidents include falling trees, poles, billboards and detached sheets, as well as damage to power lines and flooding at the Telenisa overpass, zone 12.
