Opposition electoral bodies of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala They denounced alleged irregularities in the university electoral process and they accused the Higher University Council (CSU) of acting illegitimately to favor the continuity of authorities related to the current rectorate.
The students indicated that, during an extraordinary assembly held on March 25, the CSU accredited only a part of the electoral bodies and left out the majority which, they claim, obtained favorable results in a “transparent and democratic” way.
In addition, they denounced the approval of recall appeals against electoral bodies of different powers, which, they claim, They were promoted by people who do not meet the established requirements.
They also pointed out that the suspension of face-to-face classes for several months responds to a strategy to limit student organization and facilitate a new fraud attempt in the university choice process.
In the judicial field, they criticized the decision of the Sixth Chamber of the Administrative Litigation Court of suspend an amparo that sought to guarantee the accreditation of elected electoral bodieswhich, as they indicated, generates uncertainty in the face of the election.
Faced with this situation, the students announced mobilizations to express their rejection and demand the immediate accreditation of the electoral bodies, the reopening of the central campus and a clear position from the Executive.
Likewise, they asked the judicial authorities act in accordance with the law and ensure respect to the democratic process within the university.
