The most emblematic facades of Antigua Guatemala will once again be the canvas for audiovisual art by national and international talents, who will bring videomapping and immersive light to the third edition of the Festival of Light.

This event, which year after year becomes a benchmark for contemporary art, will celebrate this artistic expression. Willy Posada, director of Antigua Viva, in charge of the festival, shared that for this new edition there are more countries interested in joining and bringing their talents to the country to exhibit their creations on the iconic facades of the colonial city.

So far, Posada highlights that there would be at least eight countries that could participate in the 2026 edition, where videomapping and other technologies will be protagonists, as well as lighting installations located in Antigua Guatemala.

The projection of videomapping takes advantage of colonial architecture to tell stories or bring it to life through technology with high-power projectors, Posada highlighted. Likewise, he highlighted that for this edition there will be laser technology that will be used in video mapping.

“The novelty this year will be that we will have at least two immersive experiences, where people will be able to have another type of approach to these technologies,” shares the director of Antigua Viva.

Although he highlighted that the issue is being reserved, Posada indicated that they are already working on the details of the festival and the selection of the guest artists, who will illuminate Antigua Guatemala on July 17 and 18.

Data shared by the organizer highlights that, in the second edition of the Festival of Light in Antigua Guatemala, at least 200 thousand people came to the colonial city. As part of the preliminary data, 16 artists, both national and foreign, are expected to participate.

Posada highlights that he currently participated in the International Videomapping Festival in Lille, where they carry out their scouting process to learn about the latest trends in art and approach leading artists in videomapping.

The scope of the Light Festival in Antigua Guatemala has crossed borders, Posada details, given that “Guatemala is positioning itself at a regional level as a platform for digital arts,” since at an international level there is already talk of the Antigua Light Festival, which helps position the country in artistic tourism.
