This Monday the annual meeting of the Coordinating Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial and Financial Associations (Cacif) was held, in which the change of board of directors was made.

For the period 2026-2027, the presidency of Cacif will be in charge of Carlos Arias Bouscayrol, vice president of Agexport, who replaces Charles Bland, president of the Chamber of Agriculture (Camagro), who concluded his term this Monday.

Francisco Ralda, from the Guatemalan Association of Exporters (Agexport), was the first vice president of Cacif, and Luis Fernando Castillo Leal was the second vice president, representing the Guatemalan Sugar Growers Association (Asazgua).

Private agenda includes elections and key laws

Among the tasks that the organized private sector must provide follow-up are the preparation and organization of the 2027 general elections, as well as the call for the event to be held by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal in January of next year.

In addition, the implementation of laws that are under discussion in the Congress of the Republic, such as the Port Law and the Anti-Money Laundering Law, will be monitored, as well as the expectation regarding the future appointment of monetary authorities and the Superintendency of Banks (SIB).

There will also be follow-up on several initiatives to improve critical infrastructure in Guatemala and the different stages carried out by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in the country.

In the external context, there are issues such as the tariff and immigration policy of the United States, as well as the possible effects on the global economy due to the international geopolitical conflict, which has increased the price of a barrel of oil and other inputs.
