According to the Public Ministry, two men were linked to criminal proceedings and sent to preventive detention for their alleged participation in the armed attacks in San Pedro Sacatepequez last April 6.
According to the National Civil Police (PNC), the detainees are alleged members of the Mara Salvatrucha and a rifle and other illegal items were seized from them when they were captured, minutes after the shootings.
The Criminal Court of First Instance of the municipality of Mixco ordered that Josué Ochoa Ramírez, 26, and Raúl Ernesto Pérez Grande, 37, alias “El Strong” or “Snyper” be involved in criminal proceedings.
Ochoa Ramírez had a record of extortion on October 27, 2017 and, due to recent events, he will face proceedings for the crimes of illegal carrying of military firearms or firearms for exclusive use by the Army or security forces, homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated robbery and attack against PNC agents.
While Pérez Grande, originally from San Salvador, El Salvador, linked to the Teclas Locos clique of the Mara Salvatrucha, was linked to proceedings for the crimes of illegal transportation of firearms, homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated robbery and public use of an assumed name.
Both accused were sent to preventive detention at the Pavoncito Preventive Center for Constitutional Reinstatement, in Fraijanes, the MP reported.
What happened in San Pedro Sacatepéquez, Guatemala, on April 6, 2026?
A chain of violent events recorded between the afternoon of April 6 in San Pedro Sacatepéquez, Guatemala, left four people dead, two agents of the National Civil Police (PNC) injured and three alleged members of the Mara Salvatrucha captured.
The incidents began in the Las Limas canton, Vista Hermosa village, and spread to different parts of the municipality and nearby areas, where vehicles were left with gunshot holes, abandoned high-caliber weapons were confiscated, and bodies were located in violent conditions.
Chronology of the events in San Pedro Sacatepéquez
On the afternoon of April 6, at 5:10 p.m., an armed attack was reported at kilometer 20.5 of the route to San Pedro Sacatepéquez, which led to a vehicle chase.
Minutes later, at 5:35 p.m., a man identified as Cristian Alexander Muñoz Cruz, 31, died while returning to his home on a motorcycle. He was intercepted by one of the attackers, who shot him and stole his vehicle.
During the events, two PNC agents were also injured. The agents captured Ochoa Ramírez and Pérez Grande in possession of an AK-47 rifle; Both were linked to criminal proceedings. In addition, a pickaxe was located with bullet holes and traces of blood, inside which shell casings, a destroyed cell phone and marijuana were found.

The next day, in the San Pedro Sacatepéquez cemetery, two charred bodies were found, presumably linked to the attacks.
Hours later, on another route in the sector, Sheila Karina Ortiz Farelo was found dead, who had tried to rescue her partner after receiving a call for help.
The authorities are investigating whether the events are related to criminal structures dedicated to drug trafficking and territorial disputes.
