Xelajú MC achieved a heroic comeback this Sunday at the La Asunción Stadium by beating Mictlán 3-2 on matchday 21 of the 2026 Clausura Tournament, in a match that had two twists of the script and that ends up seriously complicating the situation of the Conejos in the accumulated table. The Superchivos lost 2-1 at halftime but reacted in the second half with goals from Harim Quezada and Steven Cárdenas to take the three points in stoppage time.
The match started with Xelajú taking the initiative and in the 14th minute Harim Quezada took advantage of a bad start by goalkeeper John Faust to open the scoring at 0-1. Mictlán reacted quickly and on the 17th, Justin Racancoj took advantage of an error in Raúl Calderón’s start to equalize. When the game seemed to be heading to the break with a tie, William Fajardo finished off a cross from Justin Racancoj in the 45th minute to make it 2-1 and send the Rabbits into the break with an advantage.
In the second half, Xelajú came out with greater intensity and in the 60th minute Harim Quezada took a loose ball inside the area and with a right foot he tied the game at 2-2. The game became very intense in the final minutes with Mictlán looking for the third goal but without finding it, until in the 85th minute Steven Cárdenas received an assist from Joffré Escobar and finished in the center of the area for the final 2-3 that sealed the superchiva comeback.
Mictlán on the verge of relegation
With this defeat, Mictlán remains in eleventh position in the accumulated table with 50 points, equal with Guastatoya and Malacateco in the danger zone. Los Conejos arrive at the last day of Clausura 2026 with the obligation to win and hope that the results of their direct rivals are favorable to them to avoid relegation to the First Division.
For Xelajú MC, the victory is a huge result that places them as Clausura leaders with 36 points, equal with Mixco at the top of the table but with a better goal difference. Roberto Hernández’s Superchivos arrive at the last day with real options to be crowned champions of the competition table in what promises to be an exciting definition on the final date of the tournament.
The last day of Clausura 2026 will have implications at all ends of the table, with the title, classification and relegation still to be defined. Mictlán will have to bring out its best version in its last game if it wants to avoid the same fate as Achuapa, the first team confirmed to be relegated to the First Division this season.
