In recent years, the United States has investigated the “mysterious” deaths and disappearances of at least ten scientists involved in research in nuclear or aerospace fields.
According to CNN, the FBI has reported that it is leading an investigation to determine if there are connections between deaths and disappearances.
“We work directly with the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, state and local law enforcement partners. order to find the answers,” the FBI stated.
In turn, the US Congressional Oversight Commission, which is made up mostly of Republican legislators, announced on April 20 that the investigation into these deaths and disappearances began.
According to the commission, the investigation must have priority, since the victims managed and had access to sensitive scientific information.
CNN points out that the Oversight Commission, in a statement, indicated that “there are many questions that could point to an alleged sinister connection” between disappearances and deaths.
The media points out that the deaths began in 2023. The first was that of Michael David Hicks, a scientist who, according to CNN, worked in NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for almost 25 years.
Hicks would have died on July 30, 2023, but the causes of his death were not revealed.
The media adds that other deaths of researchers linked to JPL are those of Frank Maiwald and Monica Reza. The latter was a 60-year-old aerospace engineer who disappeared while hiking in June 2025.
Another figure that is missing is William Neil McCasland, a retired Air Force major general.
They are also missing Melissa Casias and Anthony Chavezwho worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
