The publication occurs when they meet ten years since the author’s death of PurpleRain. The American artist was found dead in 2016 in his studio in Paisley Park, Minnesota, after an accidental overdose of fentanyl.
The new version of With This Tearreleased by NPG Records and Legacy Recordings, features Prince’s original recording of this piano ballad, which he composed, produced and performed.
According to Billboard, the song was first recorded at Paisley Park in November 1991, but remained unreleased until now, while Céline Dion’s version appeared on her 1992 self-titled album.
The newly released recording has been updated with a new mix by Grammy-nominated producer Chris James, who has already worked on several Prince-related projects.
In 2024 a demo of Baby Doll, an unpublished collaboration between Prince and Kylie Minogue, which revealed the wealth of material that is still preserved in their archives, the publication adds.
