While the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJ) maintains an active nationwide search operation, new details have emerged about how Erika María Guadalupe Herrera Coriant, identified as the alleged perpetrator of the death of her daughter-in-law Carolina Flores Gómez, managed to leave the apartment located in the Polanco neighborhood without being intercepted.
According to what was reported by journalist Carlos Jiménez, the alleged aggressor did not act with desperation after the incident. On the contrary, she calmly moved inside the property, collected her belongings and left the place without being detained, which allowed her to gain key time before the authorities began their search.
According to the details of the investigation reported by Jiménez, after the attack, Erika Herrera left the weapon in the kitchen of the building, took her suitcases—the same ones with which she had arrived from Ensenada, Baja California—, ordered a taxi and fled, without her son stopping her.
The investigation revealed that Herrera had driven from Ensenada to Mexico City, traveling nearly 2,826 kilometers, and that he arrived at the department of Polanco on April 15, shortly after 11 a.m. The incident occurred hours later, that same day.
The omission of Alejandro Sánchez
One of the aspects that has drawn the most attention of the authorities is the actions of Alejandro Sánchez, husband of the victim and son of the alleged perpetrator.
The authorities are also investigating Sánchez, after, despite having been present at the time of the incident, he did not report it until a day later.
Alejandro justified his actions by pointing out that he did everything for the well-being of his baby, but this time would have helped Herrera escape.
The Prosecutor’s Office keeps the investigation open to determine if its actions could lead to legal responsibilities, especially for not having prevented the escape or immediately reporting the incident.
