New details about the feminicide of Carolina Flores Gómezformer beauty queen, have come to light through statements by Mexican journalist Antonio Nieto, specialized in police issues, who was interviewed by Adela Micha on her digital channel The Saga.
The young woman, 27 years old, was murdered on April 15 in the apartment where she lived with her husband and eight-month-old daughter, located in the Polanco neighborhood, in Mexico City.
The main suspect is her mother-in-law, Erika María Herrera, who is a fugitive from justice and has an arrest warrant against her.
According to what Nieto described in the interview, based on the investigation folder of the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJ), Carolina Flores was shot first at point-blank range. When his body fell to the ground, the attacker continued shooting. “They shoot him at point-blank range, Adela, and when the body falls to the floor they shoot him at least five more times,” the communicator said.
Nieto also detailed the areas of the body that received the impacts: the left cheekbone, the neck and two angles of the occipital region of the head; the latter at an even closer distance, according to the data recorded in the research folder.
Given this panorama, the journalist pointed out that the way in which the attack was perpetrated would point to deep motivations: “Which obviously means that there was a dispute, that there was resentment, that there was tremendous resentment, hatred towards this young woman,” he expressed.
About crime
According to reports, the attack occurred in the kitchen of the apartment, while Carolina’s husband, Alejandro Sánchez, was in another room with the baby in his arms.
After hearing the explosions, Sánchez approached the kitchen and confronted his mother. The exchange was recorded on a security camera that the victim herself had installed to monitor her daughter.
In the recording, Erika María Herrera is heard responding to her son that her daughter-in-law “made her angry” and uttering the phrase: “Your family is mine. You are mine and she stole you.”
According to Univisión, friends of Carolina Flores told the program Sit down whoever can! that the relationship between the victim and her mother-in-law would have changed after the pregnancy, although they did not specify the exact nature of those frictions. This version coincides with what Reyna Gómez Molina, Carolina’s mother, previously stated, who pointed out that the tensions between the two became unsustainable during that period.
To date, investigations remain open and authorities continue to search for Erika María Herrera.
