Spanish football is facing an unprecedented scenario in its history. Barcelona could mathematically become champion of LaLiga 2025-26 in the Clásico on May 10 against Real Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou.
After Madrid’s draw against Betis and Barça’s victory against Getafe, both teams reach matchday 34 with a difference of 11 points, with Barcelona only needing five more points to be mathematically champion regardless of what their rival does.
The path for the title to be decided in the Classic is clear. Barcelona must beat Osasuna on matchday 34 and Real Madrid would have to lose to Espanyol on that same date, which would leave the difference at 14 points with only 12 at stake. In that scenario, Barcelona would arrive at the Camp Nou on May 10 as LaLiga champions and Real Madrid would have to honor them with the traditional champion’s hall before the start of the match, in an image that would be historic for Spanish football.
Even if the results are not given on matchday 34, the Clásico on May 10 could continue to be the scene of the title. If Barcelona goes into that match with a 9-point lead, a victory against Real Madrid would increase the difference to 12 with only three games remaining, proclaiming the Catalans champions in their own stadium against their biggest rival.
