In a message posted on X, The first lady pointed out that the network should “take measures” against this type of content.
The presenter did a parody on his show Jimmy Kimmel Live about the dinner for journalists covering the White House, two days before the event, as if he were the comedian chosen to entertain the guests, among whom were, for the first time, President Donald Trump, his wife Melania and senior officials of his cabinet.
The president, the first lady and officials had to be evacuated after an armed man managed to cross the security barrier of the hotel where the event was being held and began shooting towards the door where they were having dinner.
Among the jokes, Kimmel alluded to the first lady with an ironic comparison and made jokes about the president in relation to an image generated by artificial intelligence that he had shared on social networks and which he later deleted after receiving criticism.
In your message, Melania Trump affirmed that the content of the program “is not comedy” and accused the comedian of contributing to “deepening the political division in the United States.”
He also maintained that figures like Kimmel “They should not have access to American homes every night to spread messages of hate.”
The first lady urged the leadership of ABC to “take a stand” and questioned how much longer the network would allow the host’s behavior.
“His monologue about my family is not comedy; his words are corrosive and delve into the political illness that prevails in the United States,” said Melania Trump in X.
The first lady also said that people like Kimmel “should not have the opportunity to come into our homes every night to sow hate” and called Kimmel “a coward” who “hides behind ABC because he knows that the chain will continue to protect him.
“How many more times will the management of ABC Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community?” he insisted.
Last year, ABC suspended Kimmel’s show after comments he made about Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist murdered on September 10.
