Four days after the entry into force of the subsidy to fuel in Guatemalathe gasoline prices and diesel recorded a significant increase since the weekend, according to monitoring carried out by Free press.
The follow-up shows that the April 26 Some service stations began to adjust their prices upwards, a trend that has been consolidated this year. April 27when most gas stations had already leveled off the new values.

Price per gallon of fuel, the breaking point
With the increase in recent days, the April 27 is positioned as a turning point in the behavior of fuel prices in Guatemala since February 28, registering the strongest increase in a single day.
Unlike the gradual reductions observed between April 10 and 20 —driven by a partial ceasefire between the United States and Iran—the recent increase was abrupt and generalimpacting both the top gasoline, regular gasoline and the diesel.
Gasoline price: from low to high
between the April 10 and 22the fuel prices had registered a downward trendwith reductions of approximately Q1.50 per gallon in gasoline and even Q2.00 in dieselderived from international stabilization.
However, the change between April 26 and 27 marked an abrupt turn, with increases that reversed much of those reductions in a single day.

This behavior reflects the high volatility in fuel pricesin a context marked by international factors and awaiting the application of the subsidyscheduled for May 1.
At the time of publication of this note, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has not yet disclosed its official monitoring of the fuel pricesso the data presented corresponds to independent monitoring carried out at service stations.
MP does not see speculation in fuel prices
For his part, the Public Ministry (MP) informed this medium that, since March 17, it has been investigating 76 complaints presented by the Diaco.
After carrying out inspections at service stations on March 19, the investigating entity indicated that, with the incomplete or non-existent information provided by several gas stations, it is not possible to establish signs of speculation in the fuel prices. Although the preliminary analyzes do not show price manipulation, the MP recognized that the lack of data limits the scope of the conclusions.
Likewise, the institution has not specified What period did you give to the gas stations? to complete the required documentation, so the investigation continues in an open phase and without conclusive results.
