During the afternoon of this Tuesday, April 28, the American diplomat Juan Rodrigueznominated as US ambassador to Guatemalaspoke in the Senate and explained his priorities, where he raised a cooperation with measurable results under the policy of “America First” before the senators of the North American nation.
“Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself to you as the nominee to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Guatemala. I am honored by the trust that the president trump has placed on me with this nomination and I am aware of the responsibility of putting American interests in every aspect of the position,” Rodríguez added.
“I want to introduce and thank my wife and children. I am grateful with my family for their support. Representing the U.S. abroad is one of the highest responsibilities our nation can bestow, and I embrace this nomination with humility and respect for the paper important and traditional of this committee,” added the diplomat.
“Guatemala is a vital partner in Central America, united to the US by economic ties, shared aspirations and connections between our peoples. I will work to ensure that our commitment reflects both our strategic priorities and our enduring commitment to the economic growth and regional stability,” he declared.

“Guatemala is important for the US because what happens there directly affects our security, our economy and our border. My approach will be based on a clear principle: engagement must deliver concrete results, including communities safeattractive economic opportunities and a prosperous hemisphere,” he explained.
“I will prioritize the protection of American citizens and the security of our staff in Guatemala. American taxpayer dollars must be used transparently and effectively to advance our interests. I will demand accountability, discipline and measurable results in all programs,” he argued.

“Migration must be addressed with urgency and realism. Illegal immigration from Guatemala overloads our border, resources and communities. I will push for close cooperation with the Guatemalan government to stop immigration illegaldismantle human trafficking networks and ensure rapid return,” Juan asserted.
“Economic commitment must support American workers, businesses and producers. I will advocate for stronger enforcement strict of trade rules, with the aim of reversing unfair practices and promoting opportunities for American companies to compete and win,” the American diplomat continued.
China’s expansion in the region
“Security cooperation will focus on results. Organizations criminalsdrug traffickers and gangs threaten both nations. I will work to ensure that our security partnerships are targeted and effective in meeting US priorities of reducing the flow of drugs towards our country,” he said.
Finally, Juan Rodríguez spoke about the economic expansion of China in the Western Hemisphere, threatening US national security, prosperity and critical supply chains. “I will work to ensure that Guatemala can be a key bulwark against chinese influence in the region,” concluded the diplomat.
