Fuel prices have been in the spotlight in recent weeks, following constant increases in the price per gallon derived from the war in the Middle East.
Guatemala implemented measures to support the final consumer, for which the Executive sanctioned the subsidy of Q8 and Q5 per gallon of diesel and gasoline.
Then, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) approved the fuel subsidy regulations.
This Tuesday, April 28, the MEM published in the Central American Newspaper Agreement 189-2026, which establishes the calculation mechanism to determine the terminal sales reference prices and the reference prices to the final consumer, for the adequate implementation of temporary social support for diesel and gasoline consumers.

The agreement explains that the terminal sales reference price (Ex-Rack) refers to the cost of sale at the storage terminal, which includes temporary social support, which will serve as a reference for supervision, transparency and verification in the marketing of diesel and gasoline.

Meanwhile, the reference price to the final consumer is the cost of sale at a service station, which reflects the temporary social support in the departmental capitals and their municipalities.
The reference ranges for the variation in price to the final consumer consider the distance between storage terminals and service stations, which affects the value of land freight for the municipalities of each department.
The State of Guatemala will contribute an average of Q22.2 million daily to cover the subsidies.
The reference price in the municipalities includes a range for the variation of prices to the final consumer.
Users report lower prices
Some users are already reporting a drop in the price of fuel at some gas stations in Guatemala City.
At some gas stations, the price of a gallon of diesel rose to Q34.32, while that of regular gasoline, to Q35.76, and that of premium, to Q36.76.
MEM publishes price table
The MEM published a table with the terminal sales reference prices Ex-Rack and reference prices to the final consumer.
He explained that the reference prices that currently appear in the table will be valid from April 28 to May 4, 2026. The MEM will be in charge of updating the reference prices.
