“Their Majesties the King and Queen announce that Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias will study the Degree in Political Sciences at the Carlos III University of Madrid. The academic program has a duration of four years and will begin in the third quarter of 2026,” says the statement from the Royal Family.
According to sources from the Royal Family, the Princess of Asturias was accepted after submitting her application to study at this public university in the Community of Madrid, one of the most prestigious in Spain, after evaluating several options and taking into account that this degree in Political Science is very complete.
Princess Leonor will make this period of her higher education compatible, in accordance with the corresponding university calendar, with her institutional commitments as heir to the Crown, just as she has done during her high school period and the three years in the military academies.
Leonor de Borbón submitted her application through the procedure known as early admission, established for students who have studied and obtained the International Baccalaureate degree outside of Spain, as is the case of the princess, who completed her baccalaureate at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales.
To submit to this procedure, applicants are required to have a good record and have taken subjects related to the career they want to study, conditions that the princess meets, as explained by sources from the Royal Family, since she has “a very good record” in Wales and “brilliant” grades during her time in the Army and the Navy and is awaiting qualifications at the General Air Academy where she is currently.
A decision that Felipe VI has informed the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, of, they point out in the statement.
Unlike her father, King Felipe VI, who from October 1988 to June 1993 studied law at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) while also studying various subjects in Economics and Business Sciences, Leonor will study what is established in that approved degree so that, as far as possible, she does it like the other students, as “one more.”
Meanwhile, her younger sister, Infanta Sofía, will begin her second year of university studies in Political Science and International Relations at the Forward College after the summer and, after a first year in Lisbon, will continue in Paris and finally in Berlin.
