Cole Allen, the man accused of trying to assassinate President Donald Trump during a correspondents’ dinner at the White House last saturday, He will remain in preventive detention without bail following a court order.
A District of Columbia judge ruled Thursday that Allen will remain in preventive detentionafter the accused accepts the precautionary measure requested by the prosecution against him.
This represents an unexpected turn in the case, after the accused’s legal team sought to challenge the preventive detention, requested by the District of Columbia prosecutor, Jeanine Pirro.
Allen currently faces a charge of attempted assassination of the president, which could lead to life in prisonin addition to two other charges related to the transportation and use of weapons.
However, prosecutor Pirro recently said in an interview with Fox News that filing more charges against Allen is not ruled out. mainly when the case is presented before the grand jury.
The accused tried to break in armed last Saturday into the lounge of the Washington Hilton hotel, in the US capital, where the annual dinner of the White House Correspondents’ Association was held.
During the event, Trump was present; the first lady, Melania; Vice President, JD Vance; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson; and several members of the Government, in addition to about 2 thousand guests, including journalists, diplomats and businessmen.
According to the prosecution’s account, after 8:30 p.m., Allen ran at high speed, bypassed the metal arch of a security checkpoint, He walked towards the stairs leading to the ballroom and fired a shotgun.
Secret Service agents responded with five shots; Allen fell to the ground and was subdued, although he did not suffer gunshot wounds.
Later, the prosecution shared a photograph that Allen was taken before leaving his hotel room and beginning his attempted attack.
