The renewal of the attorney general and head of the Public Ministry (MP) enters its final stretch, after the president, Bernardo Arévalo, appointed Gabriel García Luna as the successor of Consuelo Porras, at the head of the investigation entity.
In this regard, this Wednesday, May 6, the MP responded in writing that they would wait for a transition process with the new designated prosecutor, this after his appointment becomes official with the publication of the government agreement in the Diario de Centro América.
“After this formality, we would hope to be able to have a rapprochement with the elected attorney general, in order to begin the transition process,” responded the Prosecutor’s Office.
García Luna was announced as the new attorney general on the night of last Tuesday, May 5, and until this Wednesday no communication channel had been opened between the designated official and the outgoing authorities.
“It is expected that said contact will be formalized within the framework of the corresponding administrative process,” said the Attorney General’s Office through its communications department.
Annual report
As part of the steps to be followed by the outgoing authorities of the MP, it is the annual work report, which includes the actions implemented in each work unit of the Attorney General’s Office and is part of the work report.
In 2025, the report was presented by the Attorney General, María Consuelo Porras, at an event where the heads of the Prosecutor’s Offices were present, but with limited access to the press.
This year, the last of Porras’ eight years in office, the mechanism they will use to disseminate the information is still uncertain. It was reported that “the corresponding information will be provided in due course on how the media will proceed” to cover the event.
Now, regarding the inauguration of the new prosecutor, on May 17, “the logistical and press details will be defined once coordination is established with the elected attorney general, or his designated transition team,” indicated the MP.
