Those accused in the case called by the Public Ministry as “Narco Network of the Sea”, among them a lieutenant from the Ministry of National Defense, were provisionally sent to the Matamoros prison, in zone 1 of the capital, while the judicial proceedings against them progress.
A source from the Judicial Branch confirmed this Saturday, May 9, that the first statement hearing will not be heard by the Pluripersonal First Instance Criminal Court for Narcoactivity and Crimes against the Environment on duty in Torre de Tribunales, because the jurisdictional body that issued the arrest warrants will be in charge of scheduling the procedure for next week.
The operation carried out in Escuintla allowed the capture of 11 people, whom the investigating entity and the National Civil Police accuse of crimes related to drug trafficking and organized crime.
According to the investigations, the detainees are accused of illicit trade, trafficking and storage, illicit association, media facilitation, conspiracy for illicit trafficking, embezzlement by theft and crimes related to human trafficking.
Authorities also revealed that this structure used boats to move illicit goods along the Guatemalan Pacific coast.
The investigation began in 2024 and continues to be developed to determine possible links with other networks dedicated to transnational drug trafficking.
