An aircraft with registration YS-303P suffered a runway excursion this Friday, May 15, at head 03 of the Cobán aerodrome, Alta Verapaz, reported the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC).

The entity indicated that no loss of human life has been reported resulting from the accident.

According to the DGAC, coordination is maintained between the aerodrome administration and the Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) area, with the purpose of addressing the situation in accordance with the established protocols.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit was notified and was in charge of technical inspections to determine the causes of the incident.

Authorities have not reported whether the mishap occurred during the takeoff or landing of the aircraft.

Pablo Castillo, spokesperson for the DGAC, explained that a runway excursion occurs when an aircraft deviates laterally or exceeds the end of the runway during takeoff or landing.

He added that this type of incident represents one of the most frequent mishaps in aviation and that the majority occur during landing.
